Online MBA Degree Program Admissions Information

Online MBA Admissions Process

The Graduate Admissions Office offers personalized support to prospective students helping them select the best MBA program to meet their needs and guide them through the application process. MBA applicants are each assigned an enrollment counselor to manage their application and assist in all aspects of the application process, including financial aid, advising and registration.

During the admissions process no one factor will exclude an applicant from consideration. The University is seeking students who have demonstrated the ability and motivation to do graduate-level work. Candidates are evaluated based upon education, professional experience, GMAT score, essays, and letters of recommendation.

Applications are accepted and admissions decisions are made throughout the year. An admission decision is made after all the required documents for an applicant have been received, and candidates are normally notified in writing within two weeks. However, in order to allow adequate time to process applications, we encourage early submission of all materials. For policy on graduate-level transfer credits, contact the Graduate Admissions Office. Students may start the Online MBA program in Term 1 (October - December), Term 3 (April - June) or Term 4 (July - September).

All applicants must submit the following documents to the Graduate Admissions Office:

  • A signed and completed application form.
  • U.S. $50 nonrefundable application fee.
  • An official/certified transcript from every college or university attended, showing course work, grades, and conferral of bachelor's degree. Official transcripts must be sent directly from the college or university to Hawai‘i Pacific University. Applicants may also submit official transcripts in unopened envelopes sealed by the college or university. Transcripts must be submitted even if you enrolled in, but did not complete college courses.
  • Two original and current letters of recommendation submitted by individuals who can attest to your ability to do graduate work (e.g., former professors, academic counselors, employers, business colleagues). Recommendation forms and military evaluations may be used in lieu of letters.
  • Personal statement/essay describing your academic and career goals.
  • A current résumé is required of all MBA applicants.
  • Graduate Management Admissions Test (GMAT) scores must be sent directly to the Graduate Admissions Office by the Educational Testing Service (Code 4352). The GMAT requirement may be waived if you have a conferred degree from HPU or a Master's degree or higher, or if you are transferring to HPU from another accredited Graduate program. If this last category applies to you, please submit a transcript showing proof of Graduate courses, and submit a brief statement via email indicating that you are asking to be considered for a waiver of the GMAT based on this policy.

The GMAT requirement may also be waived for applicants who have at least five years of full-time professional experience in leadership, direct management of staff, and development and management of budgets. To be considered for a GMAT waiver, applicants must submit a brief statement via email indicating that you are asking to be considered for a wavier of the GMAT and a resume that includes a thorough description of duties, length of employment, hours worked per week, and references for each position held.
  • For more information on taking the GMAT, visit www.gmat.org.
