Career Opportunities

Two recent studies by Loyola University and Hawai‘i Pacific University of the job market in change management and organizational development indicate a widespread demand for persons trained in organizational change. Salaries are very competitive and the potential for professional growth is quite good.

Jobs include positions within organizations such as directors of organizational development or change management. External jobs include positions as change consultants with such firms as Booz Allen Hamilton, Bearing Point, and many others. Opportunities exist in health care, government, business, education, technology, community development, and many other areas.

International professional associations, such as the Organizational Development Network, Society for Applied Anthropology, Academy of Management Organizational Development Group, and the Organizational Development Institute, provide continuously updated job market information. These associations are also available as sources of information concerning the latest professional trends and change knowledge through newsletters, journals, and Web sites.

MA/OC Students

Students entering the MA/OC may take several paths towards their educational goals and professional development. They may be aspiring or practicing managers from such areas as business, information systems, government, health care and social services, the military, and education who wish to enhance their change leadership skills. Or they may be change agents such as consultants, trainers, OD specialists, and other professionals building their expertise in creating changes. A third possible reason for students entering the MA/OC program may be to prepare for a doctoral program in social science, management, organizational development and change, or other related areas Regardless of the motivation, students in the MA/OC program are provided a globally appropriate education that will be of great value to them in their future endeavors.
